Johan Cruijff
The hero I want to describe is Johan Cruijff also known as “El Salvador”. He was a legendary dutch soccer player. He was born in the center of Amsterdam. His first soccer team was Ajax he played there for many years and even won the european cup with his team. At that time Real Madrid (a Spanish club) was one of the best teams in the world. They wanted to buy Cruijff for a huge amount of money. But Cruijff didn’t want to go to Madrid because of the dictator that owned the club (Leo Franco). Instead of going to Madrid he went to FC Barcelona. A little club who was not doing as well as Real Madrid. He joined the squad and soon he would lead FC Barcelona to the top position in the league and he booked many succeses in European competition as well. For the Dutch national team he played many games too and scored a lot of goals. They reached the finals of the world cup in 1974 and Cruijff was the absolute leader in that squad. You could compare him with Lionel Messi from this time but he had leadership skills as wel. He was known for his ignorance towards the trainers and as soon as the squad walked on the field every player would listen to Cruijff’s tactic in stead of (for example: Rinus Michels). He is also known for his populair one-liners and he was a fantastic coach as well. Johan had bad sides to; he was a smoker and he had often fights. The Dutch people are very proud and this is why I chose Johan Cruijff as a hero.
